The biggest difference between the Acura MDX and Acura RDX is that the larger MDX has three rows of seating and seats 7 versus the smaller RDX which only seats 5. Both vehicles produce fairly similar power numbers, but in a different way. The MDX has a naturally-aspirated V6, while the RDX uses a more compact turbocharged I4. The smaller engine in the RDX allows for a few more MPG while the bigger V6 in the MDX is why you’ll receive a superior towing capacity. Another engine-related difference is that there is an MDX Type S, which comes with a more powerful engine.

Both models come with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is available for both as well. Since they are produced by Acura, both are loaded with tons of desirable standard features like a panoramic moonroof and full-LED exterior lighting.

That said, the amount of space per individual seat is pretty similar, with both offering generous room to comfortably settle in.
