AcuraWatch was introduced to the Acura lineup in 2014, and its impressive popularity has seen its availability expanded to cover all core models. AcuraWatch features use advanced “sensor fusion” technology, combining millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera to help prevent crashes, mitigate impact force, maintain your position in traffic, and warn you of danger.
It’s the driving force behind Acura’s goal of creating a “zero-collision society.” In the words of Jon Ikeda, Vice President and General Manager of Acura, “Deploying active safety and driver-assistive technology broadly is one way we are taking care of our customers and differentiating Acura.”
The current AcuraWatch suite includes:
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
Acura has never been a company to rest on its laurels, so you can expect to see AcuraWatch gain new features and improvements as time goes by.
One such upcoming feature is Traffic Jam Assist, which will bring your Acura to a full stop and then start travelling forward again according to the traffic ahead — it will even take responsibility for steering within certain constraints.
