The market for luxury crossovers is in a strange place at the present moment. Throughout history, these vehicles were the model of choice for the average driver, especially those who had a fair number passengers to transport around the city.

However, the rise in quality and efficiency of larger vehicles such as crossovers and SUVs has made an impact on the sedan market.

While these huge powerful vehicles with off-roading ability became easier to handle and more fuel-efficient, sedans didn’t evolve at the same speed.

Sure, crossovers typically have a better fuel-economy and are largely reliable, but the majority of the vehicles in this market are seen as bland. They don’t get pulses racing in the same way that SUVs do, which is why these larger cars are typically selling better.

The Acura RDX provides everything sedans do – and more

The Acura RDX is a perfect example of a vehicle that has taken thousands of sales from the crossover market. The innovative car manufacturer created a compact crossover that handles as well a luxury crossover while getting pulses racing in a way that only a larger vehicle can.

This year, the manufacturer has revamped its 2018 Acura RDX on the inside and out in what seems like a single-handed effort to dominate this market once and for all.

With a redesigned grille teamed with a new front bumper, the vehicle has a sportier more aggressive face. On the inside there’s a leather-trimmed interiors, heated front seats, and a dual-screen infotainment center, compatible with Apple Carplay or Android Auto.

There are two engines to choose from – either 2.4-liter four cylinder producing 2016 horsepower or a 3.5-liter V-6 producing 290 horsepower. That’s enough to power past most SUVs at the red light. In fact, this car will get to 60mph from a standstill in 5.9 seconds.

Among the new hi-tech features are a host of options to improve driver safety. Depending on the trim you opt for, you can access automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

crossovers are back in business

Acura is expecting this vehicle will fly off the shelves. Why wouldn’t it? It meets the desires of a driver and those who want a bit of excitement from their vehicle. With its unique positioning in the market, it’s easy to see why. If it does, it’ll surely only be a matter of time until other manufacturers follow suit and start creating trendy modern luxury crossovers.

At the moment, if you’re in the market for a crossover with more than a hint of style and magic, the Acura RDX is the vehicle for you.
