With the transition between older and newer models in full swing, you might be asking yourself if it is worth it to try the latest 2016 Acura RDX or opt for the 2015 Acura RDX. The 2016 RDX is a model upgrade, but you may wish to go out and purchase one of the bestselling 2015 models. There are a few enhancements to the new model year that could make a big difference, including a new suite of safety features and some hip new tech offerings.

Safety

Perhaps the biggest difference between the two models comes in terms of safety offerings. The 2015 Acura RDX is certainly a contender, with an admirable five star safety rating and plenty of protections. However, if you are extra cautious about safety features, you may want to consider the 2016 RDX, which includes several high-tech safety offerings to help you prevent an accident before one occurs. Available electronic safety systems include:

  • Blind spot warning
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Front collision warning with collision mitigation
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Remote start
  • Rain-sensing wipers

Engine and Performance

Though small, there are some differences between the 2015 and 2016 models in terms of performance. The newer model cranks out 279 horsepower compared to the 273 of 2015, and one additional pound-foot of torque. In additional, fuel economy is slightly improved, and there are some minor improvements in handling. The engine is the same, a naturally aspirated 3.5L V6, but the all-wheel drive system has been modified to send a little more torque to the rear wheels, for a sportier feel.

Good Looks

Aesthetic differences between the 2015 RDX and the 2016 RDX are minor. For example, the design of the front and rear styling has only undergone minor changes, and the wheels are offered in new designs. The most notable change comes in the headlights, which now feature the multi-LED Jewel Eye design. If you like the looks of 2015, the 2016 updates don’t provide any major changes, but if the Jewel Eye option appeals to you, then it is worth the wait for the newer model.

Take a Test Drive

The 2016 updates to the RDX are exciting, but the noted performance of the 2015 model keeps it in play.
