About the Acura MDX Type S

The Acura MDX Type S is a three-row crossover SUV that shares its high-performance DNA with legendary Acura models like the NSX and Integra. Like the TLX Type S, the MDX Type S is powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 producing 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. A specially-tuned all-wheel drive system, sport-tuned suspension, big brakes, and sticky tires make the Type S the fastest, best-handling Acura MDX ever built. Tasteful exterior upgrades hint at the performance potential of the MDX Type S. While the sweet-sounding engine will be music to your ears, you’ll also enjoy a premium audio system with 25 speakers while you’re seated in massaging front sport seats upholstered in high-end quilted leather. The Acura MDX Type S offers the ultimate in performance, luxury, comfort, and capability for buyers who want the roominess of a three-row SUV, but demand the dynamic driving characteristics of a sports car.

What the Critics Say

The Type S gets a new front bumper with larger air intakes and a more open grille pattern, a deeper rear diffuser housing quad exhaust tips, 21-inch wheels wearing stickier tires and blacked-out exterior trim. It looks awesome.” — CNET

Although there are seemingly countless switches and buttons for the multiple standard features, the new MDX avoids looking too busy inside, and the wireless charging pad on the center console is located in a great spot, right where you’d typically leave your phone.” — Market Watch

Acura MDX Type S Features

Acura MDX Type S Styling

Impressive Performance

The Acura MDX Type S is powered by a turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 engine that generates an impressive 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. That power is pushed through a 10-speed automatic transmission that offers impressively rapid, yet smooth shifts. The MDX Type S grips the road thanks to a specially-tuned, rear-biased Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. Performance tires grip the road fiercely, and are wrapped around 21-inch machined-face split 5-spoke wheels that complete the high-performance exterior design, which features a more aggressive bumper design and tasteful black accents. Those wheels also do a great job of showing off the large front brakes with calipers sourced from Brembo. After all, superior speed is useless unless you also have superior stopping power. The Acura MDX Type S also includes an additional driving mode called Sport+ that improves the steering and throttle response.

Acura MDX Type S Interior

Luxurious Interior

Even though the MDX Type S maintains a focus on performance, it’s still a luxury vehicle with the sort of creature comforts you’d expect from an Acura. The quilted leather seating surfaces are as comfortable as they are stylish, and the front sport seats feature bolsters that keep you planted during high-speed maneuvers. These seats also offer a massaging function that, combined with the dynamic chassis and eager engine, can provide for some much-needed four-wheeled therapy after a challenging day at the office. You can enjoy your favorite music with the included ELS STUDIO 3D® premium audio system, which features no fewer than 25 separate speakers to offer unmatched sound reproduction.
