How Much Can the Acura MDX Tow?

As we’ve already mentioned, the MDX gives drivers their choice of front-wheel drive or capable SH-AWD. Front-wheel drive configurations have a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. When equipped with all-wheel drive, the maximum towing capacity of the MDX is increased to an impressive 5,000 pounds. SH-AWD comes standard with both the A-Spec® Package and Advance Package along with both Type S variants and is optional on other trims as well. You’ll have enough muscle to tow a small boat or a pair of jet skis to the lake for a weekend getaway. Thanks to its standard 10-speed automatic transmission — you’ll always be in the sweet spot of the powerband to maximize towing capability.

Driver Assistance for Safer Towing

Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA) with Traction Control – Especially important when towing a heavy load, VSA helps you maintain stability by constantly monitoring data related to the following:

• Lateral G-force
• Vehicle yaw rate
• Steering angle
• Individual wheel speeds
• Throttle position
• Vehicle speed

In the event that this system detects oversteer, engine torque will be reduced and the brakes will be applied at individual wheels in order to help stabilize the MDX. Other features available or included as standard with the suite of AcuraWatch™ safety features include the Collision Mitigation Braking System™, Hill Start Assist, ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist, and a multi-view rear camera with dynamic guidelines.
